About
Dr Samantha Chen is an Australian trained specialist General Surgeon with subspecialty training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery. She graduated from the University of New South Wales, obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with First Class Honours. After completing internship and residency she was accepted onto the General Surgery training program through the Prince of Wales Hospital network, attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery.
She then embarked on two years of subspecialty training in Breast Surgery at Mater Hospital Brisbane and Royal Perth Hospital through the Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ) post fellowship training program. During this time she completed a Master of Advanced Surgery in Breast Surgery through the University of Sydney, was the Trainee Representative to the Australian Breast Device Registry Steering Committee and was awarded the Trainees’ Day Prize for Best Presentation.
Dr Chen undertook further training in the United Kingdom at the world renowned specialist cancer hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital, in London. Here she gained invaluable experience in oncoplastic techniques and breast reconstruction, including chest wall perforator flaps, reduction mammoplasty and breast implant reconstruction, which culminated in her appointment as a locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon.
Dr Chen is appointed as a Breast and General Surgeon at Prince of Wales Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women, BreastScreen NSW and Prince of Wales Private Hospital. She is a current member of BreastSurgANZ, the Australasian Society for Breast Disease and General Surgeons of Australia. She provides Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy, with certification from the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. She is committed to teaching medical students, junior doctors, registrars and fellows. She has published and presented internationally and is involved in recruiting for clinical trials nationally and internationally. She prides herself in respecting every patient as an individual, her ability to communicate clearly and work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
